My Life in Winters

Before the first American won an Olympic alpine medal, before Vail Ski Resort opened, before the infamous K2 Cheeseburger ski, before snowboards were allowed up a mountain, innovators had to build the ski industry into the culture we enjoy today. Mike Ewing was there for all of it. In every type of role on the mountain-as an athlete, ski patrolman, ski instructor, and injury researcher. And also in the sports equipment industry, working with the biggest names in the field-as a sales rep, sales manager, designer, and co-owner. A member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) since 1965, he also served as President of the Northern Rocky Mountain Division. My Life in Winters is a behind-the-scenes look at how expert enthusiasts like Mike-both well-known and unknown-transformed North America’s ski industry into a pastime enjoyed by millions of families. Their passionate determination led to the beautiful resorts, modern ski lifts, and other advancements that most of us take for granted and that enthusiasts from the days of wooden skis and woolen clothes never dreamed possible. So grab a hot chocolate and curl up by the fire for Mike’s firsthand insights on industry and critical events like the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and more, up through 2022 in Beijing, China. And join him for an exhilarating run through today’s most popular ski areas and resorts across the U.S. and Canada.
